In response to the Memorandum of the Office of the Regional Executive Director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-IX), personnel from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-IX (MGB-IX) served as Resource Person during the Orientation and Deputation Seminar to personnel of the Zamboanga City Police Station 5 (ZCPS5) on October 8, 2021.
Engr. Ventrick Ceazar A. Albano presented the overview of mining operations and the stages of mining and discussed the salient features of RA No. 7942 and DAO No. 2010-21, the IRR of RA No. 7942, and the role of the law enforcement agencies such as the PNP with regards to the regulation of the mining industry. He also presented the status of SSM particularly in Region IX and the actions taken by the government in curbing the occurrence of illegal SSM within the region. He also emphasized the role of the PNP in the successful implementation of the SSM law and encouraged them to continue in ensuring that the ENR laws are effectively implemented
Atty. Michelle Morte, Legal Officer and OIC-Finance and Administrative Division, discussed the highlights of MGB MC No. 2018-01, Guidelines in the conduct of apprehension, seizure, confiscation and disposition of illegally-sourced minerals/mineral products and by-products, tools, conveyances, and equipment used, particularly the procedures that the MGB should observe in the conduct of apprehension and/or seizure.
Meanwhile, Legal Assistant Ms. Airesh Mejos, discussed about requisites for the temporary release of vehicles/used in the commission of offense relative to the conduct of illegal mining/transport of illegally-sourced minerals and mineral products as provided in MGB MC No. 2019-02.
