As the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) leads the annual month-long Environment Month Celebration this June, a series of activities advocating environmental protection have been lined-up.  Dubbed as Aksyon Para sa Natatanging Mundo, a simultaneous tree-planting activity all over the country was held today as one of the highlights for this year's celebration.

Earlier this morning, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-IX (MGB-IX), Environmental Management Bureau-IX (EMB-IX) and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Zamboanga, jointly conducted a Mangrove tree-planting activity in Barangay Talabaan, Mercedes, Zamboanga City. Headed by OIC, CENRO Officer Jaime Salvador, the MGB-IX and EMB-IX personnel were also joined by other invited agencies.

A Team composed of Geologists from the Geosciences Division of MGB-IX recently completed the updating of the 1:10,000 scale Rain-Induced Landslide and Flood Susceptibility Map for Tigbao Municipality in  Zamboanga del Sur.

Covering eighteen (18) barangays with one hundred twenty-eight (128) puroks and their respective sitios that were clustered and divided into Northwestern Cluster, Southeastern Cluster, and Southwestern Cluster, this activity aims to appraise the geohazard susceptibility ratings of the former geohazard map produced from the previous assessment.

MGB-IX Regional Director Hernani G. Abdon led in the virtual attendance of MGB-IX during the 8th Meeting of the Contingent Liability and Rehabilitation Fund Steering Committee (CLRF-SC) for CY 2022.
 
The virtual meeting discussed two main agenda, one of which was the presentation of the endorsed Mine Rehabilitation Fund Committee Resolution No. 01-2021 re: Approval of the 1st Year Work and Financial Plan (WFP) in the amount of Php 774,747.35 and authorizing the withdrawal from the Final Mine Rehabilitation/Decommissioning Fund (FMRDF) of Philex Gold Philippines, Inc. - Sibutad under MPSA No. 063-97-IX located in Zamboanga del Norte.

The Regional Gender and Development Technical Working Group (RGAD-TWG) of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-IX launched the "Un Dia de Alegria Para Con Juana", in celebration of the International Women's Day. 

This activity was conceptualized to honor the women of MGB-IX personifying an empowered woman especially amidst the global crisis and challenges under the New Normal. Every "Juana" of MGB-IX was gifted with a Gift Certificate that she can use either to treat herself or her family. Meanwhile, three female Utility Workers were also rewarded with grocery items for the hardwork they do in order to keep MGB-IX Office premises a clean and healthy working environment especially for women.
